Data Centers Serdika and Trakia now fully equipped with solar systems

As part of the ESG Strategy of PPF Group and CETIN Group, CETIN Bulgaria has completed the installation of photovoltaic systems on their data centers in Sofia and Plovdiv.

The first solar system was integrated back in 2007 due to the effort to decrease diesel consumption, as well as the carbon footprint of the sites. The next step followed in 2010 when all suitable sites without external power supply from the power grid were equipped with cycle batteries and solar panels.

In 2013 as part of the “green” deal at the time, solar installations were placed on the roof of the company’s HQ and in front of the Serdika Data Center as solar trees with 15kWp panels and 1200Аh batteries. In order to optimize the use of the solar system in DC Serdika, it was connected to one of the direct current systems in the center. From that moment onward the company is using 100 % of its capacity, which equals 20MWh output per year.

The last phase of the project started in 2021, which includes the addition of the solar system on DC Serdika’s rooftop with expected annual output of 178,5MWh, as well as DC Trakia’s 47,617MWh annual output.

Here’s what the project manager, Desislav Dimitrov, shared for the project and the team behind its implementation:

“I would like to share my sincerest gratitude to the management, my colleague and everyone who unreservedly and professionally supported the project goals and set deadlines. I am grateful for being part of such a wonderful team for the past years.”

It’s estimated that on an annual bases just 2 ot these photovoltaic systems will save approximately 90 000 kg of carbon dioxide, which is a big step towards the Group’s aim of creating a decarbonization model, setting the science based targets (SBTi) and also following the „Net Zero Emissions by 2050”  targets set by the European Commission.
